Bellshill welcomed League Leaders Largs Thistle to West End Park for their first home game of the season. The visitors created the first chance after 2 minutes when the unmarked Lappin shot past following a Marks cross from the right.
Bellshill were deafened desperately and Calder did well to push a Dea’s effort to safety. Largs pressure paid off after 11 minutes when Malloy headed past the hesitant Calder following a throw in from the left to put the visitors ahead. Bellshill passed up a great chance to level when a Tullis cross found Fleming but his weak effort was easily saved by keeper Connick. After 28 minutes Tullis came close to equalising when he shot beyond the advancing keeper but defender Walton cleared the danger. Largs doubled their lead after 34 minutes when Walton rose above the defenders to send a powerful header into the net. With half time looming Deas missed an opportunity to put Largs three up but his effort flew yards over. Falconer replaced the injured Barry Nichols at the interval who was soon joined in the treatment room by McVittie who limped off with an ankle knock in the 52nd minute and was replaced by Falconer. The second half was a dull 45 minutes with Largs content to sit back and defend their lead. Bellshill’s only efforts of note were a Tullis shot that Connick pushed over the bar and a Fleming pass beyond the defence which Dimilta failed to reach. Bellshill Athletic: Calder, Collins, McVittie (Falconer), Booth, Lowe, Nichols (Falconer), Dimilta, Gibson, Tullis, Fleming, Watson (Murphy) Unused Subs: Wilson (G.K.), Franchetti, King, Cameron |
