  Stagecoach Super League Premier Division
Bellshill Athletic 1 Irvine Meadow 2
Saturday 7th November 2009
Bellshill Faced the league champions without regulars McVittie, dimilta, Tullis and Watson through injuries. Paul Gaughan returned after a long lay of f with a broken jaw and midweek signing from Renfrew Juniors Donnie Wilson was included in manager Danny Drew’s starting line up.

Meadow took the lead in the 2nd minute through Strain. Jaconellis cross from the left was missed by Livingstone. The Irvine striker beat the hesitant Ian Wilson from 6 yards. Bellshill made an instant reply to the early setback and Crozier but Wardrope saved his effort comfortably.

Meadow hit back and Ian Wilson atoned for his error at the opening goal with excellent stops from Barr and Hamilton. Strain should have doubled the visitors lead in the 47th minute when Barr played him through but his wild effort flew over the bar.

Fleming was a constant threat to the visitors defence and Swift twice pulled him down in the space of 30 seconds to earn himself the first caution of the game. Bellshill had a let off in the 50th minute when a Jaconelli header rebounded from the bar and Donnie Wilson cleared Barr’s goal-bound effort off the line.

Meadow were awarded a controversial penalty in the 55th minute much to the displeasure of the home support. Barr burst into the Bellshill penalty box hotly pursued by Kevin Gallagher who got a foot on the ball and Ian Wilson cleared the danger. Referee Haswell waved play on but realised the far side linesman had raised his flag and stopped play. After a long consultation with his assistant Mr Hasswell awarded a penalty kick to The Meadow and sent Gallagher off for an infringement he couldn’t see from 10 yards but his assistant could spot from 35 yards.

When calm was restored Robertson scored from the spot to put Meadow two up. Bellshill reduced the deficit in the 73rd minute when Feeney netted a 35 yard free kick following yet another foul on Garry Fleming. Bellshill stepped up the pressure in search of an equaliser but a combination of good defending and no favours from lady luck ment all three points went to the Ayrshire men.
