Bellshill took a firm grip of this game from the off and Felvus forced a fine save from Matthews after 4 minutes. Franchetti twice came close to opening the scoring before McGeochegan struck the post as Glenafton defended desperately and were fortunate to go in at the break with the game still scoreless.
Bellshill keeper Scott McNab got his first real taste of action as Glens pushed forward from the restart saving comfortably from Agnew and Casey. Bellshill suffered a blow in 56 minutes when Dean Muir was red carded for needlessly slapping Glen’s John Paul McBride. The side continued to chase that elusive opener and Kevin McDonald Struck the post from a free kick in 79 minutes. The visitors began to make use of their numerical advantage and McNab parried a header from Gow onto the post with Coulter clearing them from the danger zone. Glens had an incredible let off when Paterson missed an open goal from 3 yards out with full time looming Agnew stuck the post for the visitors with McNab well beaten. Bellshill not so lucky when in the 4th minute of stoppage time Gormley ran at the retreating home defence and his fiercely hit shot flew high into the back of the net leaving the dejected home side to Rue their missed chances.
