Lanark United 2 Bellshill Athletic 2 (Lanark United win by 12-11 on penalties) - Friday 18th April 2008 - Central League Cup – Round 2
Bellshill made a positive start to the game and went ahead after 3 minutes through Felvus follwoing a corner from the left. Lanark reacted to the early set back and McNab kept Bellshill’s lead intact saving a header from Downs and a free kick from Middleton. Bellshill suffered a blow after 20 minutes when Felvus had to leave the field through injury and was replaced by substitute Muir. Lanark continued to dominate and equalised in the 41st minute when Downs fired home from close range.

As the second half progressed Lanark had Bellshill on the back foot and only McNab in the Bellshill goal and poor finishing kept the score level. Completely against the run of play Bellshill went ahead after 64 minutes when Brownlees’ wind assisted free kick took a deflection off a defender and past the stranded keeper.

The lead did not last for long as Middleton equalised from the penalty spot following a hand ball by Murray in the 69th minute. There was no further scoring as both teams looked happy to settle for a draw. The penalty shoot out proved to be exiting and when Middleton scored with his second and his 14th he put them ahead for the first time in the game and into the next round
