| Bellshill Athletic 2 Irvine Meadow 1 - 23rd February 2008 | ||||||
The large crowd inside New Brandon Park was further enhanced shortly before kick off with the arrival of a large group of Pollock fans. Following the postponement of their game with Arthurlie they took the opportunity to run the rule their next opponents Athletic and league leaders Meadow. The visitors almost got off to a flier after 2 minutes when McNab spilled a shot from McGinty but the big keeper recovered and cleared the danger. Meadow took the lead in 9 minutes when Turner scored from close range following a cross from the right by Hamilton. Bellshill came more into the game and Wardrop saved shots from B Nichols and Franchetti. A Stuart Boyd header in the 29th minute beat the keeper but was headed off the line by Mason. Bellshill now had Meadow in the back foot and in their next attack they equalised in the 31st minute. Murray fired a superb shot high into the net from 30 yards following a neatly placed corner from the left. The home side were now in control and it was a relieved Meadow who went in at the break still on level terms. Meadow were reduced to 10 men in the 54th minute when central defender Hilland was ordered off following a second caution. Boyd and Felvus were causing big problems for the meadow defence and they were rewarded for their efforts in the 72nd minute when Alan Watson pounced on a headed clearance to beat Wardrop from around 30 yards. The visitors immediately replaced defender Dillow and midfielder Gold with strikers Swift and Joconelli in a bid to salvage at least 1 point. The home side defended superbly with Coulter and Murray standing firm. When Meadow did manage to find the target man of the match Scott McNab in the home goal was in no mood to concede. In the dying seconds Meadow pushed forward in numbers and Laughlan headed a strain shot clear and McNab pulled a fantastic save from a swift header to ensure all three points stayed at Bellshill. The ‘Hill left the park to the tremendous applause from their delighted support.
