Citylink Scottish Junior 2nd Round v Glenafton Athletic
The visitors made their intention clear by attacking from the starting whistle and Scott McNab had to be alert to block a Connelly drive but was beaten in the 10th minute when an Agnew run and cross took a deflection and ended up in the net.
Hill struggled to cope with the pace of their opponents and it was no surprise when we conceded another goal soon after. A long ball out of defence, which looked offside to the home support, found Gormley who cut inside and unleashed a shot into the top corner.
Bellshill then rallied and created their first real chance through Brian Watrett but his header was easily saved by Glenafton keeper Matthews. Matthews then denied Martin Lauchlan who found himself clean through. The second half followed a similar pattern as Glenafton looked the likelier to score again. Big Scott produced another fantastic save from Connelly’s close range effort. However, Hill got some hope when Barry Nicholls drilled home a long range shot low into the corner, leaving the opposition goalie with little chance.
Moments later the Glens regained their two goal advantage through Gormley again with a well struck shot past the goalie. Bellshill pushed forward to get themselves back into the game but the Glens defence held out till the final whistle.
